Brenzett Village Information

Brenzett Village Hall – was built and finally registered at the Charity Commission with a trust deed dated June 1989 after some extensive fund raising by villagers. The ground it is built on was very generously given by the late John and Beatrice Paine. For many years we were very fortunate to have on the committee Jill and David Body who both worked tirelessly. David mowed the grass regularly for many years and Jill acted as Secretary over this time. They are both very much missed.

Originally a very active Garden Committee maintained the grounds to a high standard, keeping under control the various shrubs and trees donated in memory of loved ones. Over the years we have sadly lost most, if not all, of these kind people and the grounds became very much overgrown. Two or three years ago the small Committee of five decided that it was becoming untenable to try and keep it all in a reasonable condition and obtained grant money to clear an area to the left of the hall entrance.

We were delighted to discover, when the brambles and rubbish were cleared, that this revealed a very attractive bank sloping down towards the hall. Once the tree roots and rubbish were gone this was planted with grass seed which has in time become a very attractive area which can now be maintained so much easier. A bench generously donated is, at last, now sited on the grass where we hope it will be well used.

We are happy to report that the same clearance work has now taken place on the other side of the entrance, funded in part by a KCC Grant, and this too has been planted with grass seed which is already growing. This area has been fenced with post and rail fencing and the committee have plans to turn this into a Memorial Garden with a “Tommy” figure and a Village Memorial Board in honour of the fallen from both World Wars. (Please see future editions of The Harrier for a celebration Coffee Morning and inauguration of the garden). Our thanks are due to Simon Collinge (Landscapes and Tree Services) who has completed the work on both areas and has gone out of his way to make such a successful transformation. Thanks are also due to Robert Thompson who cuts the surrounding hedges so neatly.

The grounds are certainly a unique and wonderful feature for weddings and parties and the hall continues to be used regularly by clubs who also appreciate the reasonable hire charges.

The committee are determined to continue enhancement work and look forward to seeing villagers at some of our events or at some of the club evenings. Listed below are contact details for clubs. Please do consider using the hall for your next party or social event, for more information and Hall Bookings please contact Mrs Lynn Bartelt 01797 344 209.

Kent Police

Police Contact Points in Kent are held each day from Wednesday through to Sunday, mainly in rural locations, on a rolling two-week schedule. Police vans stop at a prominent location for one and a half hours per visit, enabling residents to drop by and speak to a neighbourhood officer about any policing concerns or issues they may have. The new Contact Points are in addition to the existing surgeries, meetings and online question and answer sessions local officers hold each month.

For times and locations of the Police Contact Points, and to find out about other ways of contacting Kent Police in your area, please visit the Kent Police website (www.kent.police.uk) and follow the links from the home page. You can also follow on Twitter: @kent_police

Report any incident or activities which maybe of interest to the Police on telephone number 101 (for non-emergency calls).
